     This calculator can be used to determine the diagonal size of any square, by knowing only the finished size of the square. This could prove useful when making the Corner and Edge triangles for an on-point quilt setting. Refer to the On-Point Setting Triangles Tutorial for more information.

     To use this calculator, input answers for numbers 1 and 2 below, then click in one of the boxes in the CALCULATIONS area to refresh the measurements. The default is for a finished 10 inch block. The true diagonal size measures 14.14 inches and when this calculation is rounded up, it measures 14.25 inches. The rounded measure of 14.25 inches is the one used.
