2005 already? What happened to 2004? I am hoping that 2005 turns out to be one of my most quilting-productive years ever! More quilts, patterns, everything. I have so many ideas that my brain can get addled simply thinking about them. So many, in fact, that I don't even know where to begin. Do you do that, too? A few things on my agenda for this year include: At least two new mysteries, a new appliqué quilt project, a new pieced quilt project, and, of course, the completion of a few that I already have in progress. One thing that I do plan on changing this year is this newsletter. Instead of trying to make it a monthly publication (which is sometimes stressful), I'm going to aim for bi-monthly. That will free up more time for me to do other quilty things. :) My sewing room is completely renovated. We installed Closetmaid® shelving and it totally rocks. Everything is so neat and organized! I can hardly wait to spend some quality time in there... hopefully beginning next week. Seeing my new space makes me smile every time I walk in! My sewing space, for those that don't know, is in my walk-in closet. Half of the closet is a real closet and the other half is dedicated to sewing/quilting. The room is 10' x 22', so it's a nice space. Check out the pictures if you'd like to see it. At my last report on the weight loss, I had lost 208 pounds. I have now lost 240 pounds, but can tell that I'm really slowing down. The biggest surprise about all this is that most people don't recognize me now, including my own relatives! I've had quite a few health problems for the past two years, but I have a feeling that 2005 is going to be MY year... a year for healing and a year for great things. I have been under the weather since I fell and broke the bones in the left side of my face (Facial Orbital Blowout) in late August. With that came a concussion and I'm still having trouble focusing and stuff. The neurologist says that I have a post-concussion syndrome thing and it could take up to a year for me to fully recover. The main areas that are affected are my memory and my emotions. Well, hello... my age affects those two areas, too, so this is not good news for anyone having to live with me. LOL. I have been practicing memory exercises, but I really don't think they're doing any good. My short-term memory is shot. It makes life hard, but very interesting, at times. LOL Enough about me, let's get on with it!
by Terry What's new? The year! 2004 flew by! The January Wallpaper is now online! Enjoy! No new block patterns from me this past month, but I have a few in the works. I have, however, added a few new projects to the project page. Be sure to check the main page of my Web site for updates on new patterns released in the future. Or click here to explore the possibilities! I found several projects for your dogs/puppies, so if you have a pampered pooch, be sure to check these out! I also found several new projects for babies, especially preemie babies. These would make excellent little projects to do to donate locally. Contact hospitals in your area to determine the need for them. You'll be so glad you did! There are so many patterns showing up on the Internet now that it is hard to keep up! Isn't that grand? :) Mystery Quilt 15 will probably be ready to go by the middle of this month, January. I have finished the rough draft on paper and am now working on fabric requirements. Once done with that, it'll go live. The really good thing about this new mystery is that it makes a nice wallhanging... or any size quilt that you determine. Enlarging it is going to be so easy! The Gallery is a special place to showcase pictures of all the quilts that YOU have made using my patterns and/or ideas. I have just recently added several new pictures, so be sure to check them out. Y'all do such great work!!! And if you have finished any of my patterns, please share a picture with me so that I can add you to the gallery! I would appreciate it! |
There are many activities going on. A few of our monthly projects include:
The "Round Robin Charity Drive", or RRCD continues to be an all-important aspect of the forum. We have initiated a total of 401 quilts since March of 2002, and 15 of those since the last report. Out of the 401, 358 of those have already been donated, which is 15 more since the last report! I think this is spectacular since we've just finished with all of the major holidays of the year. Despite our being busy with our own lives, we have taken some time out for others as we have finished more quilts. Pat yourselves on the back! I am tracking all of the Project Linus Project information on our Web site, so it is easy for you to keep up with what's happening with this tremendous and oh-so-rewarding project. The site also contains information on the donations and the waiting list. I continue to have organizations contact me wanting on our waiting list. The need is so great and I feel as though we are just a mere drop in the bucket, but nonetheless, every stitch that we take impacts a life somewhere and that is good. If you know of an organization needing donations, please feel free to contact me via sregora@quiltingpassion.com. Also, once an organization has received a donation from us, they can request to be placed on the waiting list again. It will take another year or so for them to receive quilts again, but it is sure worth the wait! It seems as though the waiting list is getting shorter and shorter, so if we get to the end of it, then I simply begin contacting previous recipients and then starting over. The reason for contacting them first is to confirm that 1) they are still at the same address, and 2) they are still involved in a charitable organization. There are numerous block and fabric swaps going on, so if you're in the mood to sew, feel free to jump right in! I have begun a block swap that you might be interested in: Batik Bonanza. There are also many in the works, so stay tuned for new information. If you would like to see a specific swap hosted, simply contact Myra (GR8DAME) and let her know and she'll see if she can get it kicked off. Each month, we select two forum members to honor and recognize on the forum. Since I've been remiss in publishing this newsletter, let me take this opportunity to catch up! Congratulations to these Volunteer's of the Month for their outstanding willingness and generosity on the RRCD Projects.
And congratulations go to these Quilter's of the Month, for their outstanding participation on the forum.
All of these ladies deserve a huge round of applause for helping make the forum and all its activities a huge success. I am so blessed to have the members that I do! There is honestly no better forum on the 'Net than ours... and that is thanks to all of you!!! Please continue to keep Patty and her family in your thoughts and prayers. She is doing better, though, and that is great news! For those of you that are members of home away from home, thank you. For those of you that haven't visited/joined yet, please do so by signing up on the forum. Remember, basic membership is still free and we have so much fun that we want to share it with you! There are several classes in the works and more planned. Be sure to check the QPU Web site to see what's going on. The Quilt As You Go Technique class began and then has gone idle while I've attended to real life. It is my plan to start this back up some time this coming month and I humbly apologize for letting this slide. There are three new classes being taught by our very own Myra and Alexis! I am looking forward to seeing projects from these classes! Be sure to check them out!
Hopefully, coming up next will be me getting off my duff and adding new things to do!!! And I'd like to add here that I appreciate your patience when I slow down! You should know this by now, but if you have any suggestions, questions, comments, etc., please feel free to contact me and let me know! I wish all of you a happy and prosperous new year! Happy
