Happy Mother's Day!

by Terry

Mother's Day is coming up this month on the 9th and I am so thankful for my mother that I have come up with a quilting event called Mother's Day Block Parade.  I would love to see a huge participation, as I would like to get to know your mothers, too!

The weather outside has been great!  We've had a good mix of rain and sunshine.  Curt and I have done tons of work outside (he's the muscle!) and I've been very busy doing my quilting stuff, too.  I have so many ideas that I can hardly stay organized!!!

The next few months are going to be very busy for me and I am hoping that a few of the things I have up my sleeve cause you to want to jump in feet first!

The 12th block in the Flower Appliqué Quilt is online now.  I struggled with this block for several months, trying to get it just right.  I finally gave up on getting it perfect and settled for OK.  I will be displaying my layout of the entire quilt this month, so stay tuned.  I can hardly wait to show you!

The May Wallpaper is up!  I love the colors and hope you do, too!

I have been designing a few blocks that you might find interesting, too.  I've been trying to think outside the box some and provide you with some new things. Check under the Free Patterns to see what is now available!

I finished an article, "Fusible Appliqué".  It is an informative tutorial to get your feet wet with, so if you've always been curious, here is your chance.

I have two new quilt ideas that are going to take off within the next few months, too.  Since the Appliqué Flower quilt will be finished soon, I needed something to take it's place!  So, I have two ideas in the works.  If you like butterflies and/or birdhouses, you'll love these new quilts.  Both of these quilts, by the way, will be year long projects (give or take a month).

Let's not forget the Quilting Passion Challenge 2004.  The deadline for entries is May 15, 2004 and I am looking forward to seeing how your creativity is flowing!  I have received five entries, so far!

There are several new appliqué patterns available:

Here is an easy way to make Attic Window blocks, too!

I have decided that I am totally in love with button-hole appliqué!  So that's why you're seeing more appliqué than anything else.  :)

Be sure to check the main page of my Web site for updates on new patterns released.  Or click here to begin the exciting  journey of pattern surfing!

I plan on adding even more patterns, including pieced, paperpieced, and appliqué.  I need more time in my days!!!!  You never know what I'll come up with next, but be prepared for some cute patterns that aren't your typical patterns.

My pick for Web site of this month is a pattern by one of the Quilting Passion Forum Admin, Kimberly.  She has designed the cutest, quilted PDA case!  Be sure to check it out!

Ready for Mystery Quilt 14?  It has taken a back seat to other projects right now, but I hope to begin it sometime in May/June!

The Gallery is a special place to showcase pictures of all the quilts that YOU have made using my patterns and/or ideas.  I have just recently added a few new pictures, so be sure to check them out.

And if you have finished any of my patterns, please share a picture with me so that I can add you to the gallery!  I would appreciate it!

I did not realize how much I loved the forum until yesterday!  I mean, I knew I loved it, but I didn't know I LOVED IT AND WOULD MISS IT LIKE I MISS CHOCOLATE WHEN DIETING.  The forum was down for about 16 hours and it was a looooooooooooooooong 16 hours for me!  LOL.  I am so bad!

Lots going on.  A few of our monthly projects include:

  • Block Party

  • FQ Drawing

  • Charity Projects

  • Fabric Swaps

  • Block Swaps

  • Challenges

  • Events

The "Round Robin Charity Drive", or RRCD continues to be an all-important aspect of the forum.  We have initiated a total of 332 quilts since March of 2002, and 13 of those since last month.  Out of the 332, 282 of those have already been donated, which is 13 since the last month's report!  Isn't this great news?  I still get very excited with this project and it's over two years old now!  And I know a few of you do, also!

In the beginning, the RRCDs were done as the traditional "round robins", but a few months ago, we added a second method for making these quilts, made using the "row by row" method.  And beginning in June, we will kick off yet a third method of making these quilts in which we simply make blocks to be sewn together.  I will have the details finished this month for the "block by block" method.

We are still trying to finish all of the quilts that were started in 2002 and 2003, so if you have one, please give it your attention!  :)

I am tracking all of the Project Linus Project information on our Web site, so it is easy for you to keep up with what's happening with this tremendous and oh-so-rewarding project.  The site also contains information on the donations and the waiting list.  I continue to have organizations contact me wanting on our waiting list.  The need is so great and I feel as though we are just a mere drop in the bucket, but nonetheless, every stitch that we take impacts a life somewhere and that is good.  If you know of an organization needing donations, please feel free to contact me via sregora@quiltingpassion.com.

For detailed information, refer to the Forum Project Linus Web page describing the project.

Each year, thousands of women are diagnosed with breast cancer, so I began the Quilt For A Cure Project on the forum to help fund the research for a cure.  This was a project that fed into a larger one in which blocks will be sewn by volunteers and the quilts auctioned off.  The deadline for blocks to me was April 15th and the deadline for the whole project is April 30th.  I received a total of 41 blocks!  Check the link above to see a photo of 40 of them!  And a HUGE thanks to those of you that donated!

There are numerous block and fabric swaps going on, so if you're in the mood to sew, feel free to jump right in!  There are also many in the works, so stay tuned for new information.  If you would like to see a specific swap hosted, simply contact Myra (GR8DAME) and let her know and she'll see if she can get it kicked off.

Each month, we select two forum members to honor and recognize on the forum.  Congratulations to the March Volunteer of the Month, Marianne (IL), for her outstanding willingness and generosity on the RRCD Project.  And congratulations go to Jan (TX) for her outstanding participation on the forum.  Both of these ladies deserve a huge round of applause for helping make the forum and all its activities a huge success.

Those of you that frequent the forum know that one of our very dear friends is very ill right now.  Please continue to keep Patty and her family in your thoughts and prayers.

For those of you that are members of this very special forum (which is my home on the Internet!), thank you.  For those of you that haven't visited yet, please do so by clicking here.  Remember, basic membership is still free and we have so much fun that we want to share it with you!

There are currently several new classes beginning soon, so be sure to check the QPU Web site within the next few days to see what's going on.

Here is a sampling of things to come over the next few months:

  • .Documenting Quilts

  • Adding Cornerstones to Borders

  • Setting a Quilt On-Point

  • Binding Basics

  • Sparking Your Creativity For Designing Quilts

  • Quilt As You Go Technique

  • Beginning Amish Quilting

Think any of those sound interesting?  If so, be sure to check the forum for details... or if you aren't a member of the forum, please e-mail me and I'll give you the details.

by Terry

More free patterns, another MQ, some online quilting classes, a couple of new 12-month projects (as we will be wrapping up the Appliqué Flower Quilt project soon), and who knows what else?

Let me leave you with two thoughts.  Think "butterflies" and "birdhouses"!  If either of those two ideas strike your fancy, then you're in for a year-long treat, twice over!

by Terry

You should know this by now, but if you have any suggestions, questions, comments, etc., please feel free to contact me and let me know!

Easter is coming up on April 11th, so I'm beginning to think spring!!!!  Then, Mother's Day is just around the corner, too!

     Have a great month, everyone!

Happy quilting,
