Spring has sprung here in Oklahoma and I am one happy woman! All the tulips, jonquils, saucer-cup magnolias, redbuds, and dogwoods are in their glory and everything is beginning to green up. And I'm loving it. Health update: I'm feeling great! I've now lost 168 pounds and I can see an improvement with each day. I am still taking 15 pills a day to keep everything under control, but that's OK... as long as they keep working. I have developed a hernia that is quite painful and will be having surgery again in April or May, but I don't anticipate any problems. I hope that this newsletter finds all of you in good health and great spirits!
by Terry I wrapped up Mystery Quilt 13 a few days ago and you can read more about that in the section titled "Mystery Quilts". And remember the Challenge I announced a few weeks ago? Well, it's still on! The Quilting Passion Challenge 2004 deadline for entries is May 15, 2004. I hope to see your entries! This challenge gives you a lot of room to have some fun and also plenty of space for creativity! So, rev up those sewing machines and get busy! A new appliqué pattern is available and it's called "Windflower". I hope to have another floral pattern within the next week or so. Be sure to check the main page of my Web site for updates on new patterns released. Or click here to begin the exciting journey of pattern surfing! I plan on adding all sorts of patterns, including pieced, paperpieced, and appliqué. My pick for Web site of this month is for Heartbeat Quilts. This is a store that is located in MA and also online. They offer a huge variety of items, so be sure to check them out. The one thing that really hit me was the stolen quilt on the main page. I know how much time, effort, and money is involved in the making of a quilt and the fact that someone can steal one just blows my mind. The final installment of Mystery Quilt (MQ) 13 was sent out a few days ago and the responses that I have received have all been positive. I've already updated the Gallery and will continue doing so as the pictures come in. I am certainly hoping that at least a few of you will have pictures to share with us! The Gallery is a special place to showcase pictures of all the quilts that YOU have made using my patterns and/or ideas. Keep those pix coming; I love seeing what you do! And, as most of you have figured out, the same pattern can look entirely different by the use of color and/or fabric selections! |
The forum continues to be one of the bright spots of my day... and all of you are what makes it so! A few of our monthly projects include:
The "Round Robin Charity Drive", or RRCD continues to grow and is quickly becoming one of the most popular activities on the forum. We have initiated a total of 319 quilts since March of 2002, and 267 of those have already been donated! This project just flat out makes me feel GREAT. If you haven't joined this project, let me just say that it is absolutely the most rewarding project I have ever participated in. And we have so much fun, too! In the beginning, the RRCDs were done as the traditional "round robins", but a few months ago, we added a second method for making these quilts, made using the "row by row" method. And I'm now thinking about a third method that we may try in which we simply make blocks to be sewn together. I'll fine-tune this one later and see what you think! We are still trying to finish all of the quilts that were started in 2002 and 2003, so if you have one, please give it your attention! :) I am tracking all of the Project Linus Project information on our Web site, so it is easy for you to keep up with what's happening with this tremendous and oh-so-valuable project. The site also contains information on the donations and the waiting list. I continue to have organizations contact me wanting on our waiting list. The need is so great and I feel as though we are just a mere drop in the bucket, but nonetheless, every stitch that we take impacts a life somewhere and that is good. If you know of an organization needing donations, please feel free to contact me via sregora@quiltingpassion.com. I have added several new organizations to our waiting list this past week. Word is spreading about what we are doing! Doesn't it feel great? For more information, refer to the Forum Project Linus Web page describing the project. Each year, thousands of women are diagnosed with breast cancer, so I have begun the Quilt For A Cure Project on the forum to help fund the research for a cure. This is a project that feeds into a larger one in which blocks are sewn by volunteers and the quilts auctioned off. For more information regarding this project, you can read the details on the Web. It is important to note that the deadline for blocks sent to me is April 15th and the deadline for the whole project is April 30th. And to those of you that have already sent in blocks, stay tuned for a digital picture of them very soon! There are numerous block and fabric swaps going on, so if you're in the mood to sew, feel free to jump right in! There are also many in the works, so stay tuned for new information. I've even been thinking about hosting a swap myself, but can't seem to make up my mind what I want! Those of you that frequent the forum know that one of our very dear friends is very ill right now. Please continue to keep Patty and her family in your thoughts and prayers. For those of you that are members of this very special forum (which is my home on the Internet!), thank you. For those of you that haven't visited yet, please do so by clicking here. Remember, basic membership is still free and we have so much fun that we want to share it with you! There are currently no new classes scheduled, however, I have quite a few ideas tossing around in my head and would like to begin classes again by the first of May. So, stay tuned for more information! More free patterns, another MQ, some online quilting classes, and who knows what else? I am in the quilting zone and loving it! Are you? You should know this by now, but if you have any suggestions, questions, comments, etc., please feel free to contact me and let me know! Easter is coming up on April 11th, so I'm beginning to think spring!!!! Then, Mother's Day is just around the corner, too! Have a great month, everyone! Happy
