WELCOME
I hope everyone is having a very happy holiday season! I left Indianapolis on the 21st and drove to my home in Oklahoma in perfect weather... and it is still wonderful (although I sure am wanting some snow!). There is a lot to do here (with all of my family), but I find that I don't get nearly as much of the "hobby" stuff done. I miss writing, designing, and quilting! It's supposed to be a vacation, but a person can only take so much rest and relaxation and family time. :)

Quilting Passion is very happy to announce the opening of a brand spanking new online quilting school... and it's free! Be sure to read the next section, Quilting Passion Forum, for more information. It's going to be fun and exciting!

Can you believe that the year is ending and that 2002 is right around the corner? This year has just zoomed past me, but I can look back over the past 12 months and see how the QP Web site (including the newsletter subscriptions!) has grown and am quite pleased. I wonder where it'll be this time next year?

QUILTING PASSION FORUM

The Quilting Passion Forum continues to grow!  New members join daily, and there are many new activities, including block swaps, fabric swaps, row swaps, Block Parties, and much more. We have several dyeing experts on hand that freely share their tips and secrets to successful fabric dyeing... and the results are spectacular! The forum can be found at
http://forums.delphiforums.com/n/main.asp?webtag=quiltingpassion&nav=start and if you haven't visited yet, please do so, since membership is free and we have so much to offer. December continues to be "Quilter of the Day" month, too, and so far, 29 different members have been randomly chosen to win small quilty prizes (including hand-dyes and jar cakes!). There has been much excitement lately!

ANNOUNCEMENT: Have you wanted to take quilt classes, but can't find them offered at convenient times? Or they are too expensive? Or the time needed to take a class won't fit into your busy schedule? Or maybe you just haven't been able to find a class geared to what you consider to be your skill level? Whatever the case may be, perhaps you can find the perfect solution on the QP Forum, because QP School is beginning in January of 2002. There are currently two classes open for enrollment, with many more in the planning stages. I'm teaching a 12 month sampler class beginning sometime during the first half of Janauary and Pam is teaching a strippy heart class the first of February. For more information on these two classes, you can check the Web site at: http://sregora.com/quilting/school/. The advantages to enrolling in these classes? 1) They're free, 2) You can choose your own time to pace yourself, and 3) You have a message board to post your progress, ask questions, or simply see what others are doing. Hope to see you enrolled!

MYSTERY QUILT 1
Would you believe that we've had seven more of these completed? And, of course, they all look fantastic! To see the latest, check out http://sregora.com/quilting/gallery/index.html#MQ1. You'll find new ones from here in the states up to Canada and as far away as Australia. It's never too late to send in a picture!

This MQ project is now closed, so I am not taking any more subscriptions for it, however keep reading to see about other mysteries that are available or in the works.

MYSTERY QUILT 2
Mystery Quilt 2 finished on December 11th and there haven't been any pictures sent in yet. There should be some soon, however, because I know of several that are this >< close to being done.

This MQ will remain on the Web, so anyone interested can do it at any time. It's located at http://www.sregora.com/quilting/MQ2/.

MYSTERY QUILT 3
Although Mystery Quilt 3 wrapped up in October, there were still four finished and added to the Web at http://sregora.com/quilting/gallery/index.html#MQ3 in December. Notice again that there's one from Australia! Carol has sure been busy! And so has Jo Ann!

This MQ will remain on the Web, so anyone interested can do it at any time. It's located at http://www.sregora.com/quilting/MQ3/.

MYSTERY QUILT 4
MQ4 finished on December 11th and there has been one picture submitted... and is it ever adorable!!!! Wilma did a fantastic job and if you check it out at http://sregora.com/quilting/gallery/index.html#MQ4, you'll see that she fussy cut the cutest little frogs! Great job, Wilma!

This is one cool pattern, even if I do say so myself, and I'm anxiously waiting for more pictures to find their way across the Internet to my e-mail box. :)

And just like the previous two, this MQ will remain on the Web, so anyone interested can do it at any time. It's located at http://sregora.com/quilting/MQ4/.

MYSTERY QUILT 5
MQ 5 is going to begin in, oh... let's see... two days??!! Gosh, seems like it was just yesterday that I announced that this one would be given the first time on New Year's Eve/Day... and here it is already!

Prepare your "outdoorsy" looking panel or fabric by pre-washing it, and watch for the start of directions on the evening of the 31st. I can hardly wait to begin! And if you can't do it on the 31st/1st, then wait until Super Bowl Sunday. :) This MQ will only be up temporarily, so if you want to do it, but don't have time right now, it would be a good idea to print it off sometime before the month of January ends, because come February 1st, it'll disappear. :)

For those that are seeing this for the first time, what is that special panel/fabric that you need to be looking for in order to be prepared?   You will need to find one of two things... either a fabric that has an overall "outdoorsy" scene on it or a pillow panel that has an "outdoorsy" scene on it.  So, the key is this:  Find something that looks as though you're looking at an outdoor landscape or something that could be standing/sitting outdoors.  I hope that makes sense!  As for size, it could be as small as 12" and as large as 20".  Those are just approximations, though, and you could really use any size you're comfortable with.

FREE PATTERNS
Despite the fact that December was a very hectic month, I still found time (I don't know how I did it!) to add approximately 180 new patterns to the Web site. To see all of the free pattern links, begin at http://sregora.com/quilting/freepats.html.   The new ones are designated by the flashing "New" icon.  This icon will disappear beside these 180+ sometime after January begins, when I begin adding new ones for that month. I hope you find time to check out the new ones. Most of them are in the Pieced Patterns section, btw.

If you have a favorite pattern on the Internet that I don't have listed, please send me the address and I'll add it as soon as I can.

PATTERN and /or PROJECT OF THE MONTH
I don't know about you, but since winter is beginning here, I find that I cook (especially baking) more. So, my pattern project of the month for this month is a cute oven mitt that is simple to sew. You can find it at http://sregora.com/quilting/projects.html#kitchen and it's called Finger Oven Mitts. These would make great gifts!

SUGGESTIONS
I welcome suggestions, but there haven't been any lately. I know I'm not perfect, so feel free to send something my way. :) And speaking of not perfect, when you read this newsletter, keep in mind that: 1) I'm typing on a laptop and hate it, 2) I'm out of state on vacation and on a dial-up, 3) It's after 2am here. So, please forgive any errors! I appreciate your patience!

SREG'S BLOCK OF THE MONTH (BOM)
Snowflakes was the December BOM.  It was a very simple, pieced pattern that would make a great little quilt for the upcoming winter season.  You can read about this at http://www.sregora.com/quilting/bom.   I also added several different layouts so that you can get a good idea of what it has the potential to do.  Add to it the Snowflake, The Snowman block for January's BOM and you have a great combination, simply done, with a whimsical look. The snowman block is an appliqu馘 block that is located at: http://sregora.com/quilting/bom/January2002/. The EQ4 project file is available upon request, so if you'd like a copy of the project, just let me know.

As usual, insert the necessary copyright notice here.

NEW STUFF
There was an episode on Simply Quilts a few weeks back about sewing with hexagons in which tools, called Quilt Patis, were featured, and are receiving rave reviews. To read the episode notes, you can go to http://www.hgtv.com/HGTV/project/0,1158,CRHO_project_7238,FF.html. These nifty little patis simply pop out after you finish sewing. Or for more general information, read a discussion on the forum on the best ways to tackle sewing with hexagons, by going to http://forums.delphiforums.com/quiltingpassion/messages?msg=758.1. Happy hexagonning!

Need new desktop wallpaper? The January 2002 calendar is up and can be found at http://sregora.com/quilting/wallpaper.html. Enjoy!

IN CONCLUSION
The holiday season is winding down as quickly as it sprung up and I'd like to take this opportunity to wish each of you a very happy new year. I hope that the coming year is prosperous for you, with much love, happiness, and, of course, quilting.

I'd also like to thank each of you for subscribing to this newsletter. It's the first one for the new year and marks the beginning of Volume 2. Without all of you offering your support, this would not have made it this far. Thank you so much!

Take care,
Terry
