WELCOME
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Welcome, welcome, welcome! Three words: LET IT SNOW!

I am so ready for snow! I detest winter and the only thing about it that I look forward to is snow. I love to sit in front of the fireplace, with a roaring blaze, a wonderful movie in the DVD player, and a quilt on my lap that's either being hand-pieced, hand-quilted or hemmed (I always hand-hem my binding!). So, with the onset of winter and the possibility of snow (it hasn't snowed here yet), the December Block of the Month is a pieced snowflake. And, as an added bonus, I've also included an appliquéd snowman that is so sweet and simple that it'll melt your heart. This snowman is going to be the January 2002 Block of the Month, but those subscribing to the newsletter get it early. I'll explain why, and where, later in the newsletter. :)

I'd also like to take this opportunity to wish each and everyone of you a happy holiday season! I hope it's truly wonderful and I also send my greetings to you for a prosperous new year.

Remember me sharing with you last time that my Quilt Journal/Diary had been reviewed in the Quilter's Newsletter Magazine? Well, two newspapers also picked up on it and published my Web site: Long Island Newsday and Chicago Tribune. Color me happy!

If you usually skip the Mystery Quilt sections, please do skim through them this time. You may just find something you're looking for! Even if you don't make the entire quilt, there may just be a pattern that strikes your fancy.

The Quilting Passion Forum is growing, growing, growing!  We add new members daily and there is a lot of information being shared.  It can be found at http://forums.about.com/n/main.asp?webtag=quiltingpassion&nav=start and if you haven't visited yet, please feel free to do so.  It's free and we have several discussions and swaps going on. December is also "Quilter of the Day" month, in which individual quilter's are randomly chosen to win small quilty prizes.

Another change is coming in the sending of the newsletter, too. Beginning at the end of December, I'm going to start publishing this sometime during the last week of the month. I'm about to get it fine-tuned as to when the best time is, and I think this will be the last change! Thanks for being patient with me. :)

Now, to get on with the show!  And for those of you that prefer to read this from the Web, you can find this issue at http//www.sregora.com/quilting/QPV1N7.html.

MYSTERY QUILT 1
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
THE Mystery Quilt.  Yes, there are still pictures arriving and as I get time, I add them to the Gallery, at http://sregora.com/quilting/gallery/.   This gallery is updated on a regular basis, so check back often to see what people have been making and sharing with us.

I finished hemming two of mine; one for my sister's birthday in November and the other for my dining room table, both finished just in time for the holiday season! Now, if only that third one, the butterflies, was finished. I'm aiming for spring!

This MQ project is now closed, so I am not taking any more subscriptions for it, however keep reading to see about other mysteries that are unfolding.

MYSTERY QUILT 2
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Mystery Quilt 2 is still underway. This one is all being done via the Web, so there is no subscription necessary for this quilt.  It's a multi-functional project in that there are many options along the way.  The end result is very versatile and can either be a school-related wallhanging OR a cute baby quilt.  It begins on  http://www.sregora.com/quilting/MQ2/ and ends (hopefully) within the next week... in time for those making it as a gift for a teacher for Christmas.  Five blocks have been given so far (A, B, C, an apple, and a teddybear), but each are simple to do and take hardly any time at all to make.  The final assembly instructions should go out by the 10th of this month.

Let me know if you're doing this with me (I'm making a baby quilt!).   I'd love to hear from you if you are.

MYSTERY QUILT 3
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Mystery Quilt 3 was a quick project and finished in October.   It was Halloween-related and I've received some spooktacular pictures of the wallhangings.  These can also be found on the Gallery page, mentioned above.   It's a good thing I don't have to judge these quilts... they're all winners!

I finally finished mine, too! Hemmed it last week. 'Bout time, isn't it? There's always Halloween 2002!

MYSTERY QUILT 4
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
MQ4 is humming right along. I hope to have the final instructions up by the 15th of this month.

If you'd like a sneak peek at this MQ, check out http://sregora.com/quilting/MQ4/. To be notified of the releases of new instructions, simply send a request to be put on the MQ mailing list to me, with MQ in the subject area.  It's that simple!

MYSTERY QUILT 5
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
What?  MQ 5 already????  Well, not really.   But, I have designed it and it's ready to go, but I thought you might need some time to find the necessary ingredient for it.  First things first, though.

When will this one start?   I'm going to give this one out twice.  Once on New Year's Day and once on Super Bowl Sunday... you know, those two days that we really don't do anything, except sit around with football games and parades blaring on the television?  Well, I thought it would be nice to start the year off by making a quickie something, so that's the purpose of this one.  :)

What is that special ingredient that you need to be looking for?   You will need to find one of two things... either a fabric that has an overall "outdoorsy" scene on it or a pillow panel that has an "outdoorsy" scene on it.  So, the key is this:  Find something that looks as though you're looking at an outdoor landscape or something that could be standing/sitting outdoors.  I hope that makes sense!  As for size, it could be as small as 12" and as large as 20".  Those are just approximations, though, and you could really use any size you're comfortable with.

FREE PATTERNS
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
November found me fairly busy, so I only found time to add approximately 50 new patterns to the Web site. To see all of the free pattern links, begin at http://sregora.com/quilting/freepats.html.   The new ones are designated by the flashing "New" icon.  This is why I'm going to begin issuing the newsletter at the end of the month; so that the "New" icon is still there for new patterns for the current month.

If you have a favorite pattern on the Internet that I don't have listed, please send me the address and I'll add it as soon as I can.

PATTERN and /or PROJECT OF THE MONTH
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
This month, I'm featuring a cute Christmas tree wallhanging. It's simple to piece and can be done in a snap. I have it listed at http://www.sregora.com/quilting/projects.html#table and it's called "O Christmas Tree".  What a great addition to your front door for the holidays!

And for those of you that don't celebrate Christmas, how about a fast and easy tote bag? I have it listed at http://www.sregora.com/quilting/projects.html#totes and it's called "Classic Open Tote Bag".

SREG'S BLOCK OF THE MONTH (BOM)
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Snowflakes is my December BOM.  It's a very simple, pieced pattern that I think would make a great little quilt for the upcoming winter season.  You can read about this at http://www.sregora.com/quilting/bom.   I've added several different layouts so that you can get a good idea of what it has the potential to do.  Add to it the Snowflake, The Snowman block and you have a great combination, simply done, with a whimsical look. The snowman block is an appliquéd block that is going to be the January Block of the Month, but if you want to get it now, you can find it at: http://sregora.com/quilting/bom/January2002/. The EQ4 project file is available upon request, so if you'd like a copy of the project, just let me know.

As usual, insert the necessary copyright notice here.

NEW STUFF
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Travel a lot? I found the handiest little gadget. Check out the threadcutter pendant at http://sregora.com/temp/gadget.jpg. I like three things about it: 1) It fits into a spool of thread or around your neck, 2) It's inexpensive, and 3) The blade is not visible! You can check with your local quilt shops, but I wanted it NOW, so looked on the Web. It retails for $6.50, but I found it for $4.87 on the Nancy's Notions Web site.

IN CONCLUSION
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Time once again to let you get back to your quilting.  The holiday season is quickly approaching and I'm sure that most of you are going to be extremely busy for the next few weeks, but remember to take some personal time for yourself.  Have a wonderful December and I'll touch base with you again at the end of the month!

Take care,
Terry
