WELCOME! ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Hello and welcome to the second
edition of the Quilting With A Passion! newsletter. I would again like to
take this opportunity to thank each of you for subscribing. I am very pleased with
the response that I've received in regards to this newsletter and I'm
looking forward to the next few weeks as I hammer out even more of the details
for some upcoming projects that I have in mind. Please feel free to share your
subscription with fellow-quilters. The more, the merrier! ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ «¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤»«¤»¥«¤»
MYSTERY PROJECT ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ The Mystery Quilt (MQ) has been a
huge hit! As of tonight, there are over 225 subscriptions to it.
I’ll be sending out the next installment of instructions later this
week; probably either Wednesday or Thursday night. So, be on the
lookout for your next assignment! As I announced in the last
newsletter, the first 20 people to subscribe to the MQ would receive a
piece of fabric. I put those in the mail yesterday, so if you were one
of the lucky 20, expect a letter from me! The mystery project finishes by
Thanksgiving; just in time to start the Christmas holidays! It’s never
too late to begin. You can play "catch up". If you haven’t
already signed up and you're interested, send an e-mail to sregora@sregora.com with MYSTERY in
the subject area. Please make sure to send it from the e-mail address
that you wish it to go to! I’ve seen many of your fabric
selections and I can honestly say that I haven’t seen anything that
isn’t gorgeous! Y’all are making some wonderful choices in your
fabrics, whether Christmas or not. I’m anxious to start receiving
pictures of your works in progress so that I can share them with
everyone. I’m sure that most of you would agree that you’d like to
see what other people are doing as you do yours. It helps to know that
you’re going in the right direction! As if one MQ isn’t enough, I’m
already planning two more! MQ 2 will begin after the holidays are
over... sometime after Christmas and before mid-January. I already
have an idea and am working on the design. MQ 3 is going to be a special
mini-project especially for those of you that are "widows"
on New Year’s Day and/or Super Bowl Sunday. Haven’t decided which,
yet. J
MQ 3 will begin about a week before THE DAY, and I’ll send you
fabric requirements and cutting instructions and perhaps a little bit
of pre-sewing stuff to do. Then, on THE DAY, you can sew, sew, sew as
the clues begin coming in every 2-4 hours over a 24-hour period.
You’ll stitch and quilt (and check for new e-mail) all day, while
others in your household are preoccupied with less exciting things
than quilting. All of the cutting and pre-sewing little stuff will
already be done, so all you have to do is stitch your way through the
day. By the end of THE DAY, you’ll have a great item to start the
new year off with. It’s a cool little project and I already have it
designed. Thanks to Myra from NC for this grand idea! ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ «¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤»«¤»¥«¤»
FREE PATTERNS? ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Can we say "free
patterns"? I’ve added over 125 free patterns in the past two
weeks, and still have over 500 to go! There just isn't enough time in
the day for me, folks. I have so much I want to do! But, I have
resolved to add at least 100 new free pattern links a week until I
have a grip on the ones I’ve accumulated so far. I have them categorized into four
groups: Applique, pieced, paper-pieced, quick/easy projects and
quilts. The last category, quilts, is chock full of cool instructions
for a variety of different quilts. So, if you love free patterns,
check out http://sregora.com/quilting/freepats.html for hundreds of
links that go all over the Internet. If you have a favorite pattern that
I don't have listed, feel free to send me your suggestion. I’ll put
it on my list of links to add! A huge thank you to Rose for sending me
some great pattern sites, too! ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ «¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤»«¤»¥«¤»
SITE OF THE MONTH ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ I’ve been traveling to and fro
all over the Internet for many years (well, since the beginning of
1995). Occasionally, I run across a Web site that is just too awesome
for words. My Site of the Month is Quilter’s
Cache. If you haven’t taken the time or had the opportunity to visit
Marcia’s Web site, then do so. It’s a must see! She has scads of
free patterns on her site, with most of them being her own designs.
Please read her copyright policy before using any of her patterns. In
fact, you should check out the copyright policy of any site on the
Internet before using their patterns/blocks/etc. Right now, Quilter’s Cache is
home to an exclusive pattern that a group of quilters are using (with
Marcia’s permission) for a quilt to be donated to breast cancer
research, "Quilt for a Cure". The pattern being used is the
Pink Ribbon, http://www.quilterscache.com/PinkRibbonBlock.html.
This is a truly amazing pattern. Kudos to Marcia for her design. For
information on how to donate a block to the charity quilts, read http://www.quilterscache.com/QuiltforaCure.html. In a nutshell, see http://quilterscache.com/.
You’ll be glad you did! And plan on dropping several hours there.
There is more than enough to keep you (and your
printer/project-to-do-list) occupied. ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ «¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤»«¤»¥«¤»
SUGGESTIONS? ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ What would you like to see in the
newsletter? I'm open for suggestions! I want this to be something that you
really read, not something that you skim, then empty into the recycle bin. :)

OPINIONS and/or REVIEWS ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ A subscriber had a great suggestion
(thanks, Janet from Texas!) that I’m starting, too. The suggestion?
Reviews and opinions regarding different topics. Here are the two
topics I’d like to hear from you about: Sewing machines and/or the
Alto Quick Cutting System. First, sewing machines. Do you have
a machine that you absolutely love? If so, tell me exactly what kind
it is (model, brand) and about how much to expect to pay for it. If
you can give a Web site for it, that’d be awesome. Also, tell me why
you love it so much. What does it do that an "ordinary"
machine won’t/can’t do? Second, the Alto Quick Cutting
System. This is an expensive new cutting system. Do you own it? How do
you like it? Was it worth the money? Would you buy it again? Is it
easy to use or is it a pain to use? If you have an opinion about either
of those two subjects, please e-mail me with your comments and/or
review with the subject area saying either SEWING MACHINES or ALTO.
Also, please give only your first name and your location (state or
country will do, depending on how comfy you are with sharing), because
I’d like to give credit to the opinion/review. As we most know, if
we read something about a product, we don’t put much stock in it
unless we can be confident that it was a REAL person doing the
testing. J
If you have another "toy"
that you wouldn’t part with that’s pretty new on the market, let
me know about it, too. No more living in the dark ages for all of us
hip and trendy quilters. Lastly, if you have something that
you’d like to submit for comments/reviews/opinions, let me know. I
probably won’t include everything, but I’ll try to include those
topics that I think are of benefit to us as a whole. ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ «¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤»«¤»¥«¤»
SREG’s BLOCK of the MONTH ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ As promised, I’ve designed a
block of the month for August! If interested, check out http://www.sregora.com/quilting/bom/Twinkle.jpg
for a picture of the finished quilt. I’ll have the instructions for
it ready to go by Wednesday. To find the instructions, go to http://www.sregora.com/quilting/sregora/free.html
and click on the Block of the Month link. Now, for all of you
impatient quilters, if you go there now and try to click on it, you
won’t find it! The picture is up, but I haven’t done the
instructions yet. J
August’s BOM is called
"Twinkle Twinkle Little Stars" and is a VERY SIMPLE pattern.
If you examine the quilt closely, you’ll see how easy it will be.
Please note that this pattern is copywritten by me and as such, can
only be used for personal projects. For more information on my
copyrights, please refer to http://sregora.com/copyright.html. ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ «¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤»«¤»¥«¤»
SUBSCRIBER GALLERY ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ I am going to begin a gallery of
finished quilts and/or projects from subscribers. Which subscribers?
YOU! As you finish things, please send me a picture (digital) of it.
If you don’t have a digital camera or a scanner, you can snail mail
me a photo, I’ll scan it for you, then return the photo back to you
and give you a copy of the digital image. Also, as we’re progressing
through different projects (like the MQ or the BOM), feel free to send
me pictures of your works in progress! Sharing is wonderful! I’ll keep you posted and let you
know when I get the Subscriber Gallery up and running. It’ll
probably be at http://sregora.com/quilting/gallery/.
Of course, if you go there now, you won’t find it. J

IN THE WORKS ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Things to watch for in the next
newsletter: New updates on the Mystery Project, more free patterns,
reviews/comments from subscribers regarding sewing machines and Alto,
BOM instructions, the Subscriber Gallery, tips/techniques, and more!
One of the features is going to be in creating a Quilt Journal. I’ve
done most of the work for you, so it’ll be a snap. You won’t want
to miss the next issue. ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ «¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤»«¤»¥«¤»
IN CONCLUSION ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Well, it’s time yet again to
close. Time just seems to fly as I’m writing to each of you via this
newsletter. I had a lot of things to say and I
sure hope I didn’t leave anything out! All of you take care. I appreciate
feedback, so if you have suggestions or thoughts to share, let me know! If
you don't mind being quoted, let me know that, too! Happy quilting, Terry ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ «¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤»«¤»¥«¤» ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Quilting With A Passion! http://sregora.com/quilting/ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ «¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤»«¤»¥«¤»
