Debra’s Web Page

Debra's Web Page Hi, I am Debra and I'm trying to learn HTML.

I am a single mother of two daughters. Leslie the oldest is nineteen years old and attending Howard Payne University. She is going to transfer next year to Hardin Simmons University and major in Pre Med. She wants to be an optometrist. My youngest is Chelsey, sixteen years old and a junior in High School. She is in Marching Band and Jazz Band. She plays the trumpet and several other instruments. She is also in Drama and is one of the leads in the school play that will be preformed in November 2006. I could go on and on about my girls. I’m very proud of them.

I have an unusual occupation. I am a Correctional Officer for the State of Texas. It’s a very challenging and sometimes stressful job. I also have a second job that I work at on my days off from the prison. I work at a local cafeteria. I have a new respect for anyone that works in the food service industry.

I started quilting approximately sixteen years ago. I belong to the Brownwood Quilters Guild and I am a past president of the guild. I don’t have nearly enough time to quilt anymore, especially since starting the second job. I have made several wall hangings. I discovered paper piecing and fell in love with it. I have also made several quilt tops and finished two full size quilts. The most rewarding quilt that I have made is the one I made for my mother for her eighty seventh birthday. She told me that it was the best present she had ever received. She passed away four months later, very unexpectedly. I love collecting 1930’s reproduction fabrics. I feel like I was born too late or in the wrong time period. I like traditional quilts more than the new art quilts, but I have seen some art quilts that are spectacular. I prefer not to make them though.
