THIS IS FINISHED!!!!  Mailed to Wilma on 12/21/06 and received 12/27/06.  Thank you to all who made a block and/or donated money and/or donated your time and/or talent in the creation of this beautiful quilt!  Here is a page of photographs of this gorgeous quilt!

This quilt is a secret, so please do not mention it on the forum or to YWilma!

The deadline has been changed for the blocks and now is 11/15/06.

Click here to see who has volunteered a block!

On October 17th, our dear friend Wilma (aka YWilma), celebrated her 50th wedding anniversary!  What an accomplishment for her and her husband!  So, with that in mind, I would like the forum to present her with a special quilt.  We'd like to show Wilma how much we care about her, so we are making her a quilt as a symbol of our love.  Wilma has been very active on the forum since it began in 2001, plus, she is a magnificent volunteer in our Charity Project and she has donated a huge amount of time, resources, and love to help others in need.  She is an amazing woman.  In fact, all of the women on the forum are amazing (in my humble opinion), however, not all are celebrating 50 years of marriage!

A 50-year marriage is known as the "Golden Anniversary" and is typically celebrated with gold jewelry.  However, we are quilters, not jewelers!  So, we're going to use yellow to represent how "golden" Wilma is to us.  Also, a 50-year anniversary is represented by the flower, "violet".  Hence, we are making this quilt in violet and yellow... and if you have a fabric that has violets on it, it would be perfect.  I will have to stash dig, but I believe I have a violet fabric with violets on it (purchased at Wal-Mart, I do believe)!

Here are the specifics for the blocks that will be used to make Wilma's quilt:

bullet

Blocks are to be 9.5" x 9.5", unfinished, Friendship Stars.  The pattern given uses blue and yellow.  We are not making blue/yellow blocks.  We are making purple (violet)/yellow blocks!  Where the block below is blue, ours will be medium to dark violet/purple.  Where it is yellow will remain yellow.  Also, the star direction goes like the example given below.  Refer below for more block information.

bullet

The deadline for the blocks is 11/15/06.  That means that Terry (aka Sregora) would like to have your signed block  no later than 11/05/06, so please mail ASAP.  Updated 10/25/06:  Deadline was 11/05, but changed due to the fact that the initial e-mail to everyone was somehow lost in cyberspace!

bullet

The background of the blocks is to be medium to dark violet/purple.  So, where it's blue in the example above, that should be violet/purple.  This can be a print if you wish, as long as it reads medium to dark violet/purple!

bullet

The star is to be yellow, so dive into your stash.  So, where it's yellow in the example above, that is still to be anything in the yellow family!

bullet

I am asking for only 1 block!

bullet

Please sign your block in the center yellow square, using permanent ink, and put your forum name, real name (If you wish, you can simply put your first name), and your home state (or country).  So, my block would be signed, Sregora, Terry Crawford, Oklahoma.  If you want to add a brief, personal, message, feel free to write one that would be appropriate for a 50th Wedding Anniversary quilt.  Keep it clean, please.  ;)

All of the blocks will be mailed to Terry; I will put them together.  To find out my mailing address, e-mail me.  My address is on the current RRCD list, however, so if you have that, it's the same address.

     We need the following things:

bullet

Someone to donate $$ so the finished quilt can be sent back to Terry to be bound, then mailed on to Wilma.  DONE - No longer needed!  Thank you!

bullet

Someone to volunteer to make the label for the quilt, then send it to either Valerie (the quilter) or Terry (the binder and final mailer).  DONE - No longer needed!  Thank you!  Valerie

I would love to hand-deliver this quilt to Wilma, but unfortunately, she lives too far away from me.  If you live near her (Rose City, MI), please let me know!  Otherwise, I'll mail it to her!  I would love to see her face when she sees her quilt!

This Web page will be updated as soon as new information comes in!
