There are times in one's life when you seriously wonder what you could have ever done to deserve such a blow.  And most of the time, there is no rhyme nor reason as to why we go through the trials and tribulations that we do.  However, with that said, I have learned to keep my chin up, keep on going, and go through it the best that I can, and not only meet the challenges, but to try to surpass them.  And with this attitude, I have found that at the end, I have learned valuable life lessons.

Now, that sounds all good and happy happy, but the truth is, most of us would choose to NOT go through trying times to learn those lessons!  I find myself wishing at times that my life was "boring" and that there wasn't so much to do and deal with.  But, that's unrealistic and I am not alone in this life journey.

The 2007 BOM (block of the month) series offered by Quilting Passion is dedicated to all of those that tackle life's challenges and keep on keeping on, despite adversity.  This BOM is going to be quite different in that I am not going to select the blocks each month.  Instead, I have come up with the basic quilt layout, general fabric requirements, and will choose the first block.  After that, anyone that wishes to submit a block for consideration to be the "next block" chosen for this series, can simply submit their block name (picture or URL to show me the block or send me the pattern!) and (this is a very important part, so read carefully!!) the reason as to why that block is meaningful for you at the time you submit it.  It is also going to be different in that it is also going to done in tandem with a Quilt As You Go class, meaning that you can choose to QAYG on this (and learn a new technique) or simply assemble it as usual and quilt it as you wish.

Block submissions will be end on the fourth (4th) day of each month, then voting will occur for the next five (5) days.  This will put the date at the 10th of the month, and the new block for the month will be announced and, hopefully, online sometime between the 10th and 15th of the month.  That would still give participants about half a month to make that block.

Due to the nature of this BOM, I am only providing fabric requirements for the border, background, backing, batting, and binding.  The rest of the block pieces can be made from your stash or you can shop for new fabrics.  This is a great stash-busting project!

FABRIC REQUIREMENTS
(Finished Block Size, 12" x 12" - Finished Quilt Size, 59" x 59")

(Please keep in mind that it is difficult to calculate precise requirements when we do not know what the remaining 11 blocks are going to be at the onset of this BOM.  So, if you feel compelled, and can afford it, you might purchase a little extra when you can!)

Background 1 1/2 yards (this does not include using any of this fabric in your actual piecing of the blocks.  Add more if you want to include this fabric as a background in blocks.)
Border A 1 yard (includes a little extra to put into some of the pieced blocks throughout the year.)
Border B 1 yard (includes a little extra to put into some of the pieced blocks throughout the year.)
Binding 1/2 - 5/8 yard
Backing Your Choice Stash Busting if you are using the QAYG technique.  If you aren't, then the backing requirements are approximately 3 yards or so.
Batting Your Choice Approximately 72" x 72" (this can vary, if you are using QAYG).  If not using QAYG, then batting size should be approximately 64" x 64".

QUILT LAYOUT

There are 13 blocks in this layout and I have chosen to put one of the border fabrics into the center.  You can, however, put a plain block in it and personalize it, or even choose your own personal block that you feel appropriate to the theme of this quilt, which is surpassing life's challenges.
