       This is a very traditional block made from three different fabrics:  A, B, and C.  A is a light fabric, B is medium, and C is dark.

     The method for making the quarter-square triangles (QST) is described in the Hour Glass block. 

Fabric Requirements for One Block

4 - 2.5" x 2.5"

   Instructions

  1. Using the instructions given for the Hour Glass block, make four (4) QST from fabrics A and C, as illustrated to the right.
  2. Lay the block out as illustrated to the right.
  3. Sew each row together.
  4. Press the top and bottom rows the same direction, while pressing the middle row in the opposite direction.
  5. Sew the three rows together, using a 1/4" seam.
  6. Press the block flat.
  7. Trim to the exact size desired.

     Using this block alone, in a simple layout without a sashing, results as shown to the left.
