All patterns on this page are an original design, unless other-wise noted.

"All About Blocks" is a work in progress, so be sure to check back often, as more and more free block patterns in multiple sizes are added!  All block patterns that are linked to from the "Quilting Passion Patterns" page are created by Terry Crawford, and although many of them are traditional patterns, a great deal of them are original designs.  Please respect the copyright of this site.  Thank you!

16-Inch Four-Patch

The finished block measures 16 inches square (16 1/2 inches unfinished).  Instructions:  Use good quality, 100% cotton pre-washed fabrics.
  1. Cut four 8 1/2 inch by 4 1/2 inch pieces from each color.
  2. Place these right sides together, and sew along the long edge.
  3. Press the seam toward the darker fabric.
  4. Join these squares as shown.
This can also be easily sewn into strips and rotary cut for quick piecing.

If you choose to use a fabric with a large print or motif, you can "fussy cut" your strips to create a secondary pattern, as illustrated below in the examples.

Your completed block will measure 16 1/2 inches, sixteen inches after sewn into a quilt! Have fun with it!
