Block 10

  1. Print four (4) copies of the current pattern.  Each pattern should measure 6.5", unfinished.  It is extremely important that each mini-block in this 12 BOM series be printed the same size.  If sizes are inconsistent, the quilt top will not go together easily.

  2. Paper-piece each mini-block using any fabric selections that you like.  Be sure to use a fabric that reads "black" from a short distance as the "leading" in each of the mini-blocks.  Be sure to sew the units in the "ABC" and/or "123" order.

Sew A1 to A2, then sew A3 onto A2, etc.  Sew B1 to B2, etc.  Sew C1 to C2, etc.  Lastly, sew A to B, then add C, etc.  In other words, sew the pieces into units first, then sew the units into the mini-block.

Use a fabric with a theme for the largest sections.  This would provide an opportunity to "showcase" the theme.

  3. Rotate the four (4) mini-blocks until you find the layout that you like the best.  Refer back to Block Patterns 1 through 5 for examples.  Once rotated, sew the four mini-blocks together into a four-patch block, according to the layout chosen in step 3.  Be careful to align intersections.

  4. Press each block flat.  It measures 12.5" x 12.5" at this point.

  5. Do not remove the foundation from this block.

  6. Set this block aside until all 12 blocks in this project are complete.

If this pattern is used as a stand-alone in a single quilt, it can yield some simple, yet spectacular quilts.  The possibilities are endless!  And when combined with the first block, well... there isn't enough space to show you!  However, here are a few samples!

     Have fun!

The Stained Glass Quilt blocks have been designed so that they should each print from your browser at 6.5".  This size allows each pattern to print in its entirety on one page.  If you cannot get your pattern to print at this size, simply e-mail me for my snail address, then send me a SASE and I'll send you a copy of the pattern.
