This
is a very simple block that can be appliquéd in
a short period of time, using your favorite
method of appliqué, and using scrap pieces of
fabric for the appliqué pieces. For help in appliqué,
refer to Appliqué
Tips and
also Freezer
Paper Appliqué.

Instructions!
- From the background
fabric, cut an 11" square.
- Print off the apple
pattern sheet located here.
- Using scraps of red,
brown, and green, cut 1 apple, 2 leaves, and 1
stem. Be sure to add 1/4" seam
allowance, if the method of appliquéing you use
requires it.
- Lightly press your
11" background square in half, on the
diagonal. Do this in both directions.
When finished, it should look like you pressed it
in an "X" pattern.
- Depending on which
setting you're making, lay out the pattern pieces
on the block. If you're making a regular
set, then lay it out on the square, using the
"X" to center it. If you're using
the on-point setting, you can center it whichever
direction you prefer. Before appliquéing it
down, I'd recommend laying out the A, B, and C
blocks, then placing the apple block in the
position it's going to go in, and determine from
there how best to center it on the block.
Refer to the quilt pictures below these
directions for an idea of how the on-point
setting and the regular setting both look, at
this point.
- First, appliqué the
stem into place.
- Second, appliqué the
apple into place, making sure to cover the bottom
of the stem (which had a dashed line on it for
the position of the apple).
- Third, appliqué one
leaf on the right, making sure that the point of
the leaf is barely touching the stem.
- Fourth, appliqué the
remaining leaf on the left, making sure that the
point of the leaf is barely touching the stem.
- Press the entire
block flat.
- Using the
"X" as the center, trim the block to
10.5".

I have two requests: 1) Since this
is a free pattern, in lieu of payment, please send me a
picture of a completed quilt or block when you finish,
and 2) Please be sure to read my copyright
notice before proceeding. I
have strict (though very easy and reasonable) guidelines
that users must adhere to. Thank you!
Should you run into any problems in
making this quilt, or if something in the directions is
incorrect, please contact
me! It would be greatly
appreciated!
