March 02, 2004 Notes:
Do you need a quick baby quilt? Do you have a few scraps to get rid of? Do you have an itch for another mystery from? If you answered "Yes" to all of these, then this is the project for you! Index This is a cute wallhanging and/or baby quilt that would be great for a little boy. Maybe a little girl, depending on how vivid your imagination is and how creative you are with your fabric choices. And once you finish this little project, you will see yet another purpose for it... but, I can't reveal that right now! It's a mystery, after all. :) This wallhanging is made up entirely of squares and Half-Square Triangles (HST). There are three (3) options that will be available, should you want to add some cute embellishments to this quilt. The finished size of this project is approximately 39" x 45", without borders. If you wish to add your own borders, you can make it larger. This pattern would also be cute as the center medallion to a larger quilt. I used this pattern several years ago and made it into a twin quilt and gave it to my oldest son. He still has this quilt and absolutely loves it!
This can be made from scraps or planned fabrics. If planning on fabrics, the background needs to be very light, such as white on white or cream on cream or even a solid white or cream. Regardless of whether you choose scrappy or planned, you will need five (5) colors for the top: A light color (for the background), a dark black color, a dark brown, a focus fabric that contrasts with the background, and a secondary focus fabric that contrasts with the first focus fabric. An additional fabric needs to be selected for the binding. Examples are shown in the chart below.
If you aren't making this "scrappy", here are some approximate fabric requirements:
